Simon chose the name "Astrolabe" because he liked the historic connection with Marlborough and the connotations of exploration and adventure.
The Astrolabe was the mighty ship sailed by French explorer Dumont D'Urville through the Marlborough Sounds in the early 19th century. The ship itself took its name from a navigational instrument used to discover the position of the stars. Seeking the stars seemed appropriate: Astrolabe's "A" motif is an abstraction of the instrument.

Our General Manager, Jason is the captain of the ship. His drive and commitment to the future of Astrolabe will ensure the success and integrity of our brand. Linking the growers, wine company and the market, he is our communicator. His positivity and energy is infectious.
